3D possibility for iPhone 5 camera

Just as we thought we’d heard every possible rumor and piece of speculation about the Apple iPhone 5, up pops another snippet of news to make us think again. The latest news is that there’s a possibility of 3D technology coming to the iPhone 5 camera but don’t get too excited just yet as this development may have come too late for the next iPhone.

It’s fascinating stuff though and many tech sites are now reporting that the iPhone 5 could sport a 3D camera and it all stems from an Apple patent detailing how depth-detection sensors such as lidar and radar and cutting-edge luminance sensors could be used to make 3D images when a picture is taken. The patent is for iOS devices so could also be used for iPads and does seem like a natural progression for iOS devices when considering the growth of 3D TV’s and the fact that some other smartphones now feature 3D capabilities.



The patent was revealed by Patently Apple as reported by Cnet and as well as 3D picture images the patent also means that 3D models could be created on the device simply by scanning objects and the technology could also bring facial-gesture recognition. Meanwhile this report also tells how Apple is working on a 3D camera and says that it’s apparently being developed for other electronic devices apart from iPhones, iPads and Apple computers, so wonders if an Apple camera might be on the way.

The important question that many of you will be wondering is whether this has come soon enough to be included in the iPhone 5 and that’s certainly possible but of course we can’t confirm this. We’re informed that the Apple patent application was made in Q3 of last year so the wait might not be too long but it’s a case of wait and see for now. Another consideration is just how popular a 3D camera on the iPhone would be. Although we think many would enjoy this capability there are plenty of people who feel that 3D is more of a gimmick so we’d like to hear what you think about this.

iPhone 5, iTV Set To Take The Television Market By Storm

If Apple makes good on rumors of an iPhone 5 that universally controls televisions and the fabled iTV, together with the current Apple TV, Cupertino will very quickly become a key player in the television market.

It will be interesting to see what happens with iTV this year. In many ways, the iTV rumors and speculation are not unlike the long-traveled Apple tablet rumors leading up to the iPad. With the iTV, however, there is much less to go on in terms of what it could mean for television viewers. Will it simply be the full hardware version of what Apple TV already provides, or will the iTV experience be more ingenious than that? No one really has a clue, and the rumor mill is truly in the dark as to when the iTV will debut and what it will really be.

In some ways, it could turn out to be a much bigger surprise to Apple enthusiasts than the iPhone 5, which already has a ton of expectations attached to it.

With the ipad 3 expected to be announced in Apple’s special event on March 7th at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the iPhone 5 rumours have again caught fire.  Prototype design of the new iphone have been appearing on the internet.  

A mouse looking shape with curves is the latest to catch iphone fanatics and it surely looks amazingly attractive.  The screen seems is a larger, and goes right to the edges.

China Mobile reaches 15 million iPhone activations

China Mobile, an unofficial carrier of iPhone, announced last Monday that an increase in the number of activations of iPhones since last Fall has brought the number of iPhone users to 15 million after the release of the iPhone 4S and a technical fix that finally allowed the smartphone to work on the 3G network of the carrier


Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile, made a statement recently saying that the telecommunications company has been holding meetings with the fruit company to try and become an official carrier of the iPhone on its country and that the companies are trying to work together on the future implementations of a 4G handset.

In October 2011, the number of iPhone users in the China Mobile network were 10 million, in other words, in just a little over 5 months, the world’s largest mobile operator got 5 million more activations since the launch of the iPhone 4S, all that just because one single product. The demand was so high and unexpected that the Apple Stores of China had to delay retail sales because of a shortage of supply and an uncontrollable crowd.

The demand for the iPhone in China has been so strong that some Chinese have resorted to buy the device in the grey market at spectacularly high prices and activate them in unofficial mobile networks like China Mobile.

Even the fact that, because of a technical incompatibility, the iPhone can’t use the full speed of the 3G network in China, hasn’t dissuaded the crowd of Apple fanatics from purchasing and activating the famous touchscreen phone, though that problem might be eliminated pretty soon according to a report from the PDO newspaper.

The basic and standard chip of the iPhone 4S only supports frequencies between the 885-915 MHZ (called the P frequency) while the Chinese network works on the 880-890 MHZ frequency (called the E frequency), thus making the device incompatible and almost useless in the country’s main cellphone networks. According to the report, Apple is working on modifying how the iPhone 4S communicates with its GSM chip for future models after Feb. 8, and made a promise to try and fix the devices that were made before that time in the update of the iOS platform; this move will probably add even more activations to the world’s largest cellular network.

Even more, there are rumors of a potential partnership between Apple and China Mobile to develop a TD-LTE integration in the next model of the touchscreen smartphone. This new technology will make the device compatible with most of the cellular network of the world, including China’s largest one.

Siri does not function as promised claims iphone user

Apple stated that it has updated the Siri by adding Japanese language support in according with the debut of the iOS 5.1. However, there are a number of Japanese users that have problem in understanding what the voice assistant is saying.

For instance, when using the Japanese voice recognition feature to ask commands such as is it cold outside, both Apple’s Siri and DoCoMo’s Syabette Concier will show the weather data. However, when the user say My stomach is aching, Siri don’t understand but Syabette provide map for the nearest hospital in the neighborhood.

Syabette voice recognition feature will produce the Chigasaki map when asked about tomorrow schedule. Siri only provide information about the schedule in respond to the command for tomorrow schedule. Siri was unable to provide the Chigasaki map because it cannot retrieve the location information outside of the United States. Syabette was able to show the map because it is made by a local company.

Siri cannot return the search result for a Japanese pop singer that have nonsense names. On the contrary, Syabette can quickly provide the search result for the Japanese pop singer as searched by the user.

The virtual assistant of Apple can set an alarm. However, it is unable to cope with tongue twister. It also cannot recognize the statement of cooking curry.

The Japanese language voice recognition feature was added after Siri claim that it can speak the Japanese language. During the debut of iOS 5.1, Apple reveals that the Japanese speaking Siri feature was added to the iPhone 4S.

There are a number of English speakers claim that Siri is not offering optimal performance. The Siri software is facing problems with a number of regional accents. It also have problem in recognizing the accents of English from other countries.

Some people claim that Apple had convey false message in the Siri commercials. There is one case where an owner of the iPhone 4S filed a lawsuit against Apple because Siri is not as responsive as advertised in the commercial. Apple had debuted Siri in beta mode to compensate for the mistake. It also disclaims the shortened sequences in the advertisements.

There are a number of voice recognitions experts that suggest Apple releasing the Siri in beta version to obtain voice samples in order to improve the performance of the Siri voice recognition software.

Apple plans to improve Siri is stated in the Language Technologies Engineers. This allows new languages to be added to the software and other services that are based on cloud.
